Wedding Crafts- #1 Hankies

So here is the first wedding craft I started after two of my best friends became engaged (yes to each other!). Her mom was talking about using her wedding dress for some kind of decoration/momentum and we agreed on hankies! So I set to ripping her wedding dress apart to use the lace.
If you've ever seen the part in 27 Dresses  where Katherine Hiegel says "You're just the bitch that broke my heart and ripped up my mothers wedding dress" (or something to that effect), you can understand how nervous I was when I first started this task. Her dress wasn't stored in a sealed bag so there was some age spots, but luckily with a little warm water and some plain white dish detergent I was able to get it looking like new. So from there I cut some Kona muslin into 11" x11" which I roll hemmed on my serger then added the lace with a heavy holding glue. It was magic! I was so relieved that I actually completed this task, because if you know me, you know I love to get ideas and start a new project leaving the old behind......usually forever.

It wasn't until about 5 months later that I learned how to embroider, which is still very simply a split stitch, that I volunteered to embroider all the hankies! So I used a simple script font in word and created the monogram for the couple and then added the date of the wedding. We (the bride and I) decided to use a slightly off white for the embroidery so that it would stand out from the lace, but so that it would also blend well together. Anyway, god enough rambling from me, here are some photos!

I will hopefully be posting more wedding crafts soon, some will have to wait until after the weddings of my 2 good friends, since ya know I don't want to spoil anything for the grooms.

I'm new to this!

And I don't know if I'll be any good at keeping up with this blog. It'll probably be a combination of inspiration I've gathered from around the web and some projects I'll be working on. I'm a lover of all things handmade and I'm still discovering the difference between crafts and art and how the two work together to form something amazing. I'll post some recent creations tomorrow!
